Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden will probably not need surgery on his sprained right thumb and could return sooner than expected. Coach Rob Chudzinski said after practice on Friday that it's ''highly unlikely'' that the second-year QB will need surgery. Weeden was injured in Sunday's loss at Baltimore. On Thursday, he visited a hand specialist, who confirmed the diagnosis of a sprain and did not find any further damage. Chudzkinski said the team will re-evaluate Weeden next week and ''play it by ear'' as to when he plays again. On Wednesday, Chudzinski named third-stringer Brian Hoyer the starter for Sunday in Minnesota, and said Weeden's job was not guaranteed when he returned. Weeden seemed surprised to learn his job wasn't safe, and Chudzinski said he has spoken to the 29-year-old about the situation. --- AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org

Browns reportedly getting ready to move on from Brandon Weeden

NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell told WHFS-FM in Tampa, Fla. on Thursday that he “happens to know” Weeden is “not going to be their guy” next season, according to Black Sports Online. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.  The Browns made it clear this week that Weeden isn’t guaranteed his starting spot when he comes back from his thumb injury. Also the fact of...

Brandon Weeden Not Guaranteed to Get His Starting Job Back

Weeden might as well start packing his bags. He probably has a solid backup job waiting for him in 2014. Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski  was asked if Weeden would get his job back once his thumb healed and here is what he had to say. “I don’t really see it as that. We’ll see how things are going, how Brandon is doing from a health standpoint, evaluate it on a weekly basis...

Report: Browns Preparing To Move On From Brandon Weeden

This news is not shocking in the least bit, but it’s still news and worth reporting on the heels of the Browns trading Trent Richardson. Less than two weeks after the Browns said that Weeden wasn’t on a short leash, NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell said Thursday on WHFS-FM in Tampa, Fla., that he “happens to know” Weeden is “not going to be their guy” for the...

Brandon Weeden Could Return As Early As Next Week

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that after meeting with doctors it was determined that Browns QB Brandon Weeden has sprained right thumb that will not require surgery. According to Schefter, Weeden could return as early as next week. Cleveland has already named Brian Hoyer their Week 3 starter against the Vikings, which is a bit of surprise given that Jason Campbell has been listed...

Cleveland Browns trading Richardson is more about Weeden than T-Rich

With the Browns trading Trent Richardson today to the Colts for a 2014 #1 pick, it says a great deal about what they thought of him. The team, under the previous regime, spent the #3 overall pick last season on him, and they just dumped him for a pick that will likely be in the late teens or the 20's. While Richardson battled injuries and ran behind a bad offensive line, he...

Cleveland Browns at Minnesota Vikings: 2013 Week 3 NFL Pick

Cleveland Browns (0-2) at Minnesota Vikings (0-2) This line has had tremendous line movement this week, going from -3.5 at the beginning of the week to -7 now. That’s significant as 23% of NFL games are decided by between 4-7 points. Why such a big shift? Well, Brandon Weeden has been ruled out with injury and Trent Richardson has been traded. However, I’m not sure losing Weeden...

Tom Reed discusses the Trent Richardson trade by the Browns – WFNY Podcast – 2013-09-19

Tom Reed is a great reporter and always a really thoughtful podcast guest, so I wanted to get his take on the Browns trade, the mood in Berea following the trade and what it all means for the future. Tanking and how the idea of it ever came to be How did the Browns do selling this to the fans? Giving up on Trent Richardson this early is truly shocking The pressure that Joe Banner...

Cleveland Browns Have An Epically Bad Offense

The Cleveland Browns offense is epically bad right now. Prior to their starting quarterback getting hurt and idiotically trading their star running back, the Browns offense sucked. Cleveland only managed to score 16 points in their first two games. Now, Brandon Weeden is injured, which means journeyman Brian Hoyer will get the start for the Browns in Week 3. Since being drafted in...

The Most Depressing Cleveland Browns Jersey Ever Gets Even More Depressing

Congratulations to you brave Cleveland Browns fans because you have a new starting quarterback! Let’s welcome third-string QB Brian Hoyer as the next tackling dummy. Former starter Brandon Weeden sprained his right thumb during Sunday’s loss to Baltimore, opening up the vacancy for Hoyer. The 27-year-old made one start for the Cardinals last season after spending the three previous...

Browns seeing their relevancy for a generation slipping away

These thoughts have been going through my tortured mind since the end of week 1, when the Browns looked like a Division I-AA team, losing at home yet again on Opening Day, this time to the Dolphins. Well done, Brokaw. That was fast. Week two had my hopes still a bit inflated, as I was thinking that Weeden's flashes he shows, albeit all too rarely, were going to...

Willis McGahee passes physical, joins Cleveland Browns

Injured second-year quarterback Brandon Weeden is no longer the oldest starter on the Cleveland Browns' offense. Veteran running back Willis McGahee 31 has passed his physical and agreed to terms with the Browns sources tell NFL Media's Jeff Darlington. Although one report suggested the Denver Broncos released McGahee in June primarily due to concerns about the torn MCL...

The Browns Corrected a Mistake That Could Benefit Them in the Long Run

You ever started to date a woman and immediately regretted it, but because you put in the time,  money and effort into the relationship you felt the need to stick around longer than you should have? That was the Cleveland Browns 2012 NFL Draft. They had two picks in the 1st round (#3 that was originally #4 but they traded with Vikings for no good reason and #22). When you have two...
