FLORHAM PARK, NJ - MAY 02: Head coach Rex Ryan of the New York Jets speaks to the media during minicamp on May 2, 2009 at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)
Don’t you think the media is just waiting for this one.The new Rex Ryan Show. How will Geno Smith do as a starter in his first game? It’s Darrelle Revis playing against his old team. Can the New York offense get it in gear? Will there be another butt-fumble?Where does it end and now, there is even more controversy because well, it’s Rex Ryan. Oh how the New York world turns.I have been waiting for this one since it was announced, a guilty pleasure of sorts that acts like the car accident you cannot take your eyes off of.And the Buccaneers have their own kinds of issues for the upcoming season. How long before Josh Freeman is on the sidelines? Can the secondary be everything it should be with its new depth and talent? The questions are not the same, but as a team that wants to be a player in the race for the playoffs, they have to be answered. And of course the fact this game is played in New York makes it all the more dramatic. Here are some bold predictions for this game.Chris Ivory shows off his talentIvory was made for the New York Jets offense. Now that Geno Smith is the starter by default, the running game becomes much more important. Can Ivory run through the Jets defense and help Smith with play action on third down? Can Smith use his legs to move the chains as well and keep the Buccaneers defense honest?Darrelle Revis, 2.0Revis will take the field for the first time since shredding the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last September in Miami. It was his last appearance in a Jets uniform. And this time, he will pick off Smith three times. If there is a player who will make a statement playing against his old team, it will be Revis.I also would not be surprised if Revis, who is never short of wanting to open his mouth, has a few “nice” things to say about his former team.Extremely poor quarterback playAnd this is not a new thing to discuss. Even if Mark Sanchez was playing in this game, it could be thought that Sanchez would be just as bad as Smith.Don’t expect a shoot out of any kind with this one.If Smith and Josh Freeman combine for 400 yards of total offense, I think it might be a real shocking event. The clock is on as to when Freeman will be benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon and if the Jets use Brady Quinn on Sunday, look out!
