Tight end Jordan Cameron worked hard every day of the 10 week offseason program and the eight practices of on-field work, learning the new system of offensive coordinator Norv Turner and the possibility of winning the role as the starter. Cameron was selected by the Browns with the 102nd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft in hope of being their starting tight end of the future and his time is now. The departure of veteran tight ends Benjamin Watson and Alex Smith this offseason, in his 3rd year, Cameron has the chance to contribute to the Cleveland Browns’ offense and earn the starting job. The new offense will feature the tight ends more as receivers, especially down the field. Cameron says his mindset is on being the starter and that he wants to be, ‘The guy.’ “It’s just having the mindset that I’m going to be the guy, try and take over this role,” Cameron said, via Matt Florjancic of ClevelandBrowns.com. “The confidence is huge with that, and I think I get more confidence every day, learning new things. With (tight ends) coach (Jon) Embree, he really knows the details and how to make you a better player, whether it be blocking or positioning or route-running. “Coach Norv Turner is very detail-oriented, and that really helps me as a player separate from a defender. They’re proven, so it makes me trust them more and puts confidence in my abilities.” “They’re making an opening for the tight end,” Cameron said. “They’re running deep routes, and it makes it easier for the tight ends to work the middle a little bit, and we stretch the field as well, so there’s a lot of guys running deep, vertical routes. But at the same time, we’ve got Trent Richardson in the backfield, so it’s going to create a lot of mismatches, I think. It’s going to be fun to see. We’re not where we want to be, but I think we’ll get there real soon.”
