New Jets wide receiver David Nelson said he has not spoken to his college teammate Tim Tebow about life with the Jets since signing with the team Tuesday. Nelson was scheduled to work out with Tebow next weekend. He said Tebow who is currently a free agent called him a few weeks ago and asked him if he wanted to work out. Nelson played with Tebow at the University of Florida and famously caught a jump pass from Tebow in the 2009 BCS Championship Game against Oklahoma. He said he is surprised no teams have taken a chance on Tebow since the Patriots waived him in the preseason. “I am just because I know him” Nelson said “and I know what he can bring to a team not just from the physical aspect of on the field but what he brings off the field – that aura and the presence he has about him. Guys love being around him. Guys feed off that and he makes other people better. Even if he’s not out there calling the plays he’s helping guys coaching guys. To have that as a backup quarterback is ...

New York Jets Therapy Session – Agoraphobic Punt Returners

Cole Patterson continues his New York Jets Therapy Session series. Make sure to check for these every Thursday and to give him a follow on Twitter.  Diagnosis: Recent changes to kick offs have dramatically lessened the impact that special teams, specifically kick and punt returning, has on the NFL game. That being said, field position is still a crucial aspect of winning in this...

Verdict still out on Jets 2009 Draft trade

In the 2009 NFL Draft, the New York Jets had the 17th pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the 19th pick, and the Cleveland Browns had the 5th overall pick. Rex Ryan was getting his first stint as a Head Coach. He needed a player to compliment what he knew would be a great defense. He knows how to coach defense but, there was a wonder as to what would happen with the offense... Read more

Falcons working overtime to get backup LBs ready for Jets

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. When the Falcons host the New York Jets Monday, the game, in some ways, will serve as a tale of two linebacking corps. The Jets, whose starting group is comprised of Quinton Coples, Demario Davis, David Harris and Calvin Pace, are part of the NFL's No. 2 defense, which also ranks third in sacks. Pace, the 11-year veteran, has 2.5 sacks while Davis and Harris...

Rex Ryan Scraps Plan to Give Geno Smith Colored Wristbands to Help Him Prevent Turnovers Mark Sanchez-Style

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Red light. Green light. Forget it. A few hours after saying the New York Jets are considering using a wristband with plays designated by color — red, yellow and green — to help struggling quarterback Geno Smith, Rex Ryan decided against it. “To be honest with you, I don’t plan on doing that now,” Ryan told ESPN NY 98.7 on Wednesday. The Jets, trying...

New York Jets: 2013 Week 5 NFL Power Rankings (#26)

Last week: 25 (-1) Record: 2-2 Brandon Moore retired. Mark Sanchez is out for the season. And ESPN took down Butt Fumble as Worst of the Worst. And yet, somehow, the Jets manage to continue to make themselves the butt of jokes (I’ll let you decide whether or not the pun was intended). Geno Smith fumbled this week off of his OWN butt trying to move the ball from one hand to another...

Injuries sustained by Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill in this past Sunday’s game, may sideline the team’s top two receivers for Monday night in Atlanta. With both Holmes and Hill uncertain of return for this week’s matchup against the Falcons, the Jets’ front office signed third year receiver, David Nelson.

Santonio Holmes: ”I Can’t Throw The Ball To Myself And Catch It”

You want to know what’s better than a diva wide receiver explaining why he didn’t have any catches? An injured wide receiver explaining why he only had one catch. Two weeks after Hakeem Nicks told the media he can’t throw the ball to himself, following a blowout loss to the Panthers, injured Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes just did the same thing. Holmes was asked about...

Jets place Mike Goodson on active roster

(AP Photo/Rich Schultz) The New York Jets have placed running back Mike Goodson on the active roster. Goodson has been serving a four-game suspension and has a minor hamstring issue so there is question as to how much he can help the Jets in Week 5. He was limited in practice on Friday. Jets activated RB Mike Goodson, so his hamstring is obviously not an issue. WR Michael Campbell...

Santonio rips Jets: ‘I can’t throw it to myself’

Santonio Holmes’ hamstring is balky but his tongue was as sharp as always Thursday. Asked to explain a seeming lack of production Sunday with Geno Smith he paraphrased another star receiver — the Giants’ Hakeem Nicks. “I played 49 plays and all I know is that I had one catch. That’s all I can attest for’’ said Holmes who added what could be viewed as a thinly veiled...

Mike Francesa dragged out the "I advised Mike Holmgren" on Jets head coaching job story again

NY Jets insider Mike Francesa hasn't spoken of the time Mike Holmgren sought a seat with him to ask his advice when he might have become the head coach of the New York Jets since, you know, 2008. Must be the chambray collar polo. At least here the story has remained, you know, the same. Not like when Mike explained how he, Terry, the Mets and Jay Horwitz all called each other...
