Texans DE Antonio Smith Fined $15K For Late Hit On Matt Ryan

Houston Texans defensive end Antonio Smith was fined $15,000 by the NFL for his hit on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan late in the first half of the Texans 17-10 win over Atlanta. Smith was flagged for a 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer. Smith can't do anything about the penalty. He will appeal the fine. "$15,000, it's ludicrous," Smith said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. (Agent) Drew (Rosenhaus) is going to call them today and make sure we get the appeal set up." Smith does not believe he deserved the penalty or the fine. "I'm super disappointed because It's enough that you give us a 15-yard flag for that type of hit and then a $15,000 fine assessed to something so minor like that, it's getting outrageous," Smith said. "The fine system is getting outrageous."
