Houston has signed free agent Joe Mays after the linebacker was suspended and fined last season for a hit on Texans quarterback Matt Schaub.
The Texans confirmed the signing on Tuesday.
Mays knocked Schaub's helmet off and the star QB lost a chunk of his left ear on the play during Houston's 31-25 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sept. 23. Mays was fined $50,000 and suspended for one game.
The Houston Chronicle and KRIV-TV of Houston were the first to report the signing. Mays told the television station that he and Schaub talked Monday and made peace. Schaub told the station the hit was ''water under the bridge.''

The Texans hope Arian Foster (calf) will return from the PUP list by the middle of the week. At this point, the injury doesn't seem to be a long-term concern, but keep in mind Foster averaged a career-low 4.1 YPC last year and racked up 405 carries (including the playoffs).
