In this series, we look at the top 20 Houston Texans of the 2013 season.    #7 The Houston Texans added DeAndre Hopkins to finally get help to Andre Johnson opposite of him offensively. Despite having some erratic quarterback play, Hopkins put together an impressive rookie campaign. A starter from day one, he appeared in all 16 games and started each one. There has been plenty of criticism after the season on the lack of impact Hopkins had on the season, but for the hand he was dealt at quarterback, the results were better than expected. Hopkins was reliable target, and he really showed what he could do when he was sent vertical against defenders. When given the opportunity, he showed his ball skills off when he could beat defenders in one on one jump ball situations. He showed against Tennessee he could take over a game, and he did it with Johnson in the locker room with a concussion. Hopkins is still learning the position, but his skill set are what team’s want in their wide receivers. Considered the most polished wide receiver coming out in the draft, he showed flashes of that this season. There were too many times where Hopkins disappeared on the field, but that was due to the lack of targets heading his way on the field. He needs to work on his overall strength and take a bigger step next season as a second year starter.   Hopkins Key Stats He posted 52 receptions for 802 yards and 2 touchdowns for a 15.4 average per reception. Joined Kevin Walter (15, 2008) and Johnson (15.5, 2009) to average more than 15 yards a reception in a season (50 catch minimum). Hopkins logged the 1st game a wide receiver went over 100 yards during a game not named Johnson since Jacoby Jones did it in week 16 of the 2010 season. 91 targets, 1 drop on the season. Only Larry Fitzgerald had more targets (126) with one drop.   Hopkins is a key component for the Texans in the coming year, and with a new offensive philosophy he could be used to his strengths as a player. Him and Andre Johnson make one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL, and look like they could be together for a few more seasons.     Texans Top 20 of 2013: #8 Brandon Brooks You can follow Patrick on Twitter.  He is the Editor of State of the Texans.
