The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Minnesota 20 Vs. Indianapolis 23

The Good

Golly, I’m pretty gosh darn good

Andrew Luck. Yep, after his week one stinker, it’s time to, yet again, heap praise and accolades unto the second coming of John Elway. Ladies and Gentlemen, Andrew Luck won his first game in the NFL. Was he perfect? No. Was he spectacular? Not really. Were you forced to avert your eyes as to not be blinded by his brilliance? Uhh. Hardly. But, he won. He’s the quarterback. He won. And, in the NFL, wins are the bottom line.  Luck’s numbers we not spectacular, they were solid. He made some rookie mistakes. He also made his share of veteran plays that helped his team end up on the right side of the final score. Indianapolis is a pretty bad team. They have quite a few holes that only years of solid drafting and free agency will fix. But, with Andrew Luck under center, Indianapolis might just be the cream of the crappy crop. At least, this season.

The Bad

“PSYCH!”

Adrian Peterson. Come on, All Day. It’s the Colts. The Colts without Manning. There should be ZERO reason, whatsoever, that you and your surgically repaired knee should not be scampering all over the porous defense that is basically Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis playing out of position, and nine guys.  After AP’s week one masterpiece, this game brought a 2×4 upside the proverbial head of Vikings fans that, Matt Kalil, Jared Allen and a recently injured Adrian Peterson isn’t quite enough to get things done in the NFL, even against last year’s bottom-feeders. The Minnesota Vikings are a unique team in the present-day NFL universe. Adrian Peterson is, very possibly, the only game changing running back in the league. At least, the only one who cares (see CJ2k). When Peterson finds his groove, the Vikings can beat any team in the league. He can be, at times, unstoppable. Unfortunately, Leslie Frazier and Co. don’t let that happen.

The Ugly

Excuse me, I’m supposed to sack you

Vikings Defense. Seriously, Mr. Allen? You give a rookie 31 seconds, and 2 timeouts and can’t keep him from carving your defense up, putting his JV team in position for the game winning field goal?? Unacceptable. You might just be the premier pass rusher in the NFL, put that rookie on his back. 3 tackles, 0 sacks. Unacceptable. Your recently rookie QB, minus the illustrious pedigree, orchestrated quite the no-huddle, 2-minute drill to take the game to overtime. And you got beat by the grown-up version of Timmy Turner. Without his fairly odd parents. Unacceptable.

Andrew Luck, Age 10

Yes, I have a 4 year old.
