After starting the season with a 48-28 statement win against the Buffalo Bills in 2012, the New York Jets finished the season with a 6-10 record, and the longest running Not Top 10 play in ESPN History. Here is the Jets rookie class to hopefully prevent a rerun season from the most dramatic team in the league.......Or for now anyways, who knows what Rex Ryan will do before the season starts.New York Jets 2013 Rookie ClassDraft Picks1st Round: Dee Milliner, Corner Back1st Round: Sheldon Richardson, Defensive Tackle2nd Round: Geno Smith, Quarterback3rd Round: Brian Winters, Offensive Guard4th Round: Chris Ivory, Running Back5th Round: Oday Aboushi, Offensive Tackle6th Round: William Campbell, Offensive Line7th Round: Tommy Bohanon, Fullback Undrafted Rookie Free AgentsTroy Davis, LinebackerMike Edwards, Defensive BackDalton Freeman, Offensive LineTrey Gilleo, Offensive LineRoosevelt Holliday, Defensive LineJake McDonough, Defensive LineRontez Miles, SafetySpencer Nealy, Defensive EndChris Pantale, SafetyMark Popek, Offensive LineZach Rogers, Wide ReceiverMike Shanahan, Tight EndRyan Spadola, Wide ReceiverK.J. Stroud, Wide ReceiverAntavious Wilson, Wide ReceiverAfter losing Darrelle Revis 8 games through the season last year the Jets still managed to rank 2nd in the league against the pass on defense. This turned out to be a bad thing for Revis since the Jets traded the All-Pro corner back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he expressed his displeasure of how he was being handled. The Jets made the most out of the rewards from that trade by replacing Revis with Dee Milliner and grabbing defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson to tighten up their 26th ranked rush defense. Milliner has the skills to be just as effective if not better than Revis after having an All-American season playing for Nick Saban at Alabama. To go along with Richardson up front on the line, defensive end Spencer Nealy should see plenty of snaps considering the Jets only had 30 sacks last season and need to get more pressure on quarterbacks. To go along with the upgrades to their defense; Ryan and company completely overhauled their offense starting with quarterback Geno Smith in the second round.Smith should be the starter week one for the Jets despite how much of the offense he actually knows. The biggest issue Smith should have adjusting from college to the NFL is the speed of the game. At this point anything is better than Mark “Butt Fumble” Sanchez, and what better way to learn the speed of the game than to be in making plays. If you look at it the only place the Jets passing attack has to go is up after finishing the league ranked 30th in the league.Smith will not be the only be the new key starter in the Jets backfield on opening day; running back Chris Ivory will also be introduced to the league. Ivory will be a tremendous upgrade to a rush attack that ranked 12th in the league last season. To go along with replacing Revis, tight end Justin Keller also had to be replaced since he signed a one year deal with the Miami Dolphins. Mike Shanahan should be just that player after he was signed to a free agent deal andNo matter what position you look at, this Jets team is geared for success and needs their coaches to step up and lead instead of blame. If Ryan can check his ego this season instead of fueling the soap opera the media already has surrounding him and his team, the Jets might have the best shot at dethroning the all mighty New England Patriots.
