With as many as 20 pending unrestricted free agents currently on their roster, the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants released RB Brandon Jacobs on Friday. Jacobs was heading into the final year of his contract and voiced his desire to remain with the Giants for yet another season. Jacobs also publicly had stated that he would be willing to take yet another salary cut in order to remain with the Giants next season. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the Giants wanted to slash Jacobs salary from his contractual $5 million next season to just $1.5 million, Jacobs reportedly would have played for $2 million. Both sides could not strike a deal so the franchise released the soon-to-be 30-year old running back.
