Now that the season is over for the Cleveland Browns, it’s time to take stock of what’s going on and start making news out of nothing. Wait a second…that’s exactly what happened all season. Okay, new plan: we’ll take stock and pretend everything is fine, even though the team just went 4-12 in an exercise of futility that hasn’t been seen since, well, every year. Sounds stupid, right? Whatever plans the brain trust had in place are not changing because they’ve made them public. Everyone knew that all parties involved were disappointed with another embarrassing season filled with quarterback problems, offensive ineptitude, and a lack of playmaking by anyone whose name isn’t Phil Dawson. The Pat Shurmur press conference was first and I noticed a puzzling after effect. See, most of my kn...

Revisiting the Eric Mangini Firing

Last week things got testy here on WFNY yet again when I brought up that I was tired of hearing the argument that detractors use to say Mike Holmgren is a hypocrite for firing Mangini for not winning enough.  I just wrote a small paragraph on it in a ranting fashion, and I don’t think it might have made the point, and possibly even came off a little antagonistic.  So, I thought...

Holmgren on Seattle Radio: Finding a Quarterback is Key (with Audio)

The last time Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren went on Seattle radio airwaves, all hell broke loose. This time around, Holmgren opted to hold his State of the Union press conference before heading back to his old stomping grounds. The product: not much different from what was said when he took to the podium in Berea. There’s a certain way I believe you build the team in...
