MVN:
Our beloved Washington Redskins don't draw much respect from the smart money. They are high odds, which means low probability to make Super Bowl 44 according to www.bodog.com.
Bodog sent their betting odds for the 2009 Redskins season courtesy of my email friend Jimmy Shapiro. My travel schedule prevented me from getting the details up sooner.
Some people say that Washington considers NFL week one as preseason week five, since it's the first time the starters see extended play. So, since this post is going up before NFL week two, it's not really late.
Here are team offs for the Redskins along with comments by me.
Team Odds
Odds to win the 2009 Super Bowl XLIV
Washington Redskins 34/1
The Eagles, Giants and Cowboys are 10/1, 12/1 and 15/1 respectively.
Odds to win the 2009 NFC Championship
Washington Redskins 14/1
The Eagles, Giants and Cowboys are 9/2, 5/1 and 7/1 to take the conference.
Odds to win the NFC East Division
Washington Redskins 6/1
I won't bother to post odds for the rest of the Beast, the skins still bring up the rear.
Regular Season Win Total Over/Under
Over 8 Even
Under 8 -130
"-130" means you have to bet $130 for an even shot to win $100. As Jimmy Shapiro explains, the betting public expects the Redskins to win under eight games.
Player Performance Odds
Total Passing Yards - Jason Campbell
Over/Under 3100
Total TD Passes - Jason Campbell
Over/Under 14.5
Total INT - Jason Campbell
Over/Under 10.5
Jason Campbell threw for 3245 yards, 13 TDs and 6 INTs last season. It doesn't stand to reason that he will regress in 2009.
I'm looking for a 33 percent improvement from Campbell. That projects to 4300 yards, 17 to 20 TDs, eight or nine INTs.
That's an improvement, but not enough to stick with the team.
Total Rushing Yards - Clinton Portis
Over/Under 1250
Total TD's - Clinton Portis
Over/Under 8.5
Portis rushed for 1487 yards and nine TDs last year.
Total Receiving Yards - Santana Moss
Over/Under 900
Total TD's - Santana Moss
Over/Under 5.5
Moss caught for 1044 yards and six TDs last year.
Total Receiving Yards - Chris Cooley
Over/Under 775
Total TD's - Chris Cooley
Over/Under 5
Cooley caught for 849 yards and a single TD last year. He's already matched that performance with his touchdown against the Giants yesterday.
Total Sacks - Albert Haynesworth
Over/Under 6.5
Total Sacks - Brian Orakpo
Over/Under 4.5
Miscellaneous Odds
Will Jim Zorn be the coach of the Washington Redskins for Week 1 of the 2010 Season?
Yes -115
No -115
The betting public has pretty much written Jim Zorn off.
Betting odds just show the thinking of the public. It's not a prediction.
Gamblers have bought into the steroetypes of the Redskins, especially about the quarterback, coach...and the owner.
Hog Heaven is not a tout sheet. We just think that an outside view of the team is interesting stuff.
