Tim Tebow's tenure as a New York Jet was a catastrophe in any number of ways, yet even as boos rained down at MetLife Stadium, no one from the team stepped forward to pinpoint the cause of failure.
With the Wildcat experiment all but over, fired quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh is giving his take.
Cavanaugh told ESPN Chicago on Thursday that Tebow should have been on the field more, admitting the Jets didn't use the Wildcat package "as much as we should have, probably" and lacked a general plan to deploy it.
"We were probably less (convinced) about how much we wanted to get (Mark) Sanchez off the field to do that," Cavanaugh said. "So it was something we toyed with. But to be fair to Tim, we didnt use it enough to let him be productive in it. So you better be sure when you decide to do it."
Cavanaugh, now the Bears' quarterbacks coach, denied tumors that Tebow was kept off the field by poor practices.
"No, it had nothing to do with that," he said. "I wont even ... thats the past. Wherever hes at next, I think hes a good football player. I hope he gets a chance to play more."
