Entering his fourth season with the Chargers, LB Larry English will be expected to finally make his contributions with only one more year remaining on his contract.
English was drafted 16th overall in the 2009 draft. In his first three seasons he has only recorded 60 tackles and 7 sacks. Though he has been battling injuries throughout the year, there still has to be held to some standard as far as his production goes. And 60 tackles in three seasons just shouldn't cut it for a 16th overall pick.
English heads into the 2012 season rested and healthy so in theory, he should have everything he needs to have his breakthrough season this year. The talent around him will help him to succeed as well. Said English, "I'm feeling real good, my body is the healthiest as it's been in a long time." English has an optimistic view looking towards the next year. "I'm at a better point right now than I was last year"
Just to clarify, I want English to succeed and personally think that this is the year that he will grow into a steady starter for the Chargers. He looks to be in great shape. Looks even like he gained a couple pounds of muscle without losing the speed.
Inevitably, I believe that this should be the make or break year for the Chargers to decide whether they want him to be on the roster after this year (even though he has one more year on his contract after this season) for the simple fact that GM A.J Smith likes to get rid of loose ends that aren't getting the job done and replace them for those who will.
