Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean suggests that it would not be a surprise if the Titans added a wide receiver to the roster sometime in August, or after roster cuts begin.
Wyatt notes that there are likely only three roster locks at wide receiver: Nate Washington, Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter.
Wyatt adds that veteran WR Derek Hagan could fill one the spots behind the top three, despite not playing last season.
Most teams carry five or six receivers on the 53-man roster during the season. Tennessee has few experienced options for the back-end of their corps.
One player to watch is WR Michael Preston, who only has 10 career catches in two years. He has however, impressed the coaching staff since earning a spot on the practice squad in 2011.
Another option is WR Marc Mariani, who does have return ability, but he has missed the last two seasons with injuries. Brian Robiskie and Julian Horton are two others with a chance at making the final cut.
It is clear that Tennessee does not have much depth at the position. If veterans such as Hagan and Mariani struggle to recapture old form, it seems very likely that the Titans could look outside the organization for some help.
Some of the more notable receivers in our List of Available 2014 Free Agents include Santonio Holmes, Davone Bess, Devery Henderson and Deion Branch.
