The Titans plan to keep the 37-year-old veteran for the final year of his contract, general manager Ruston Webster said on Friday.
Coach Mike Munchak selected Locker over Hasselbeck to be the starter in 2012, but the Titans still like Hasselbeck as a security blanket. Locker missed five midseason games because of a dislocated left (non-throwing) shoulder that he underwent surgery on Wednesday for.
Matt is just a good guy to have on the team, a good guy for Jake, for me, for Munch, Webster said. So I would expect him to be back.
At the end of the season, Hasselback said he wanted to return and finish out his three-year, $20 million contract. But with Hasselbeck scheduled to make $5.5 million and count $7.5 million against the salary cap theres been speculation that the Titans might let him go.

The flip side to my recent pick of Derrick Morgan the biggest surprise for the Titans in 2012 is picking the biggest disappointment. While Morgan wasn't the only player I considered for that honor, after a 6-10 season following up 2011's 7-9 mark, the disappointment field is sadly a competitive one.
The problem with picking a disappointment (and also a surprise) is that...
Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean writes that the Titans are “very much interested” in re-signing TE Jared Cook this offseason.
Cook, 25, is coming off of a disappointing season, but has plenty of talent to work with and figures to be one of the best available tight ends on the market. He’s been lukewarm regarding the idea of returning to Tennessee next season and the...
In the 2011 season, the Tennessee Titans showed promise by posting a respectable 9-7 record but 2012 was a step in the wrong direction. They struggled on both sides of the ball, placing in the bottom quarter of the league in an abundance of statistical categories. The Titans showed confidence in their young and talented quarterback, Jake Locker, by giving him the starting job....

Jake Locker said in a text message to TitanInsider that the surgery to repair his dislocated left shoulder "went well."
Locker separated the shoulder twice during the 2012 season, his first as a starter for the Tennessee Titans. And after the second separation, which caused him to be out five weeks, it was determined that surgery would be needed in the off-season to...
Someone from Kenny Britt’s team said he was ready to fully cooperate with police about a stabbing and shooting that happened a couple of days ago.
The stabbing led to Britt dropping off his brother/friend still confusion on that, at the hospital. Since then the Cops have been looking for him, but he is no where to be found.

I ran some of these numbers after Chris Palmer was fired, but with the season concluded, it's time to take a final look at how field position affected the Titans' offensive performance in 2012.
I may have said this before on this site, once or twice, in some detail, but the Titans weren't very good on offense in 2012. As the numbers will show, they struggled to move...

Running back Chris Johnson rushed for a career-best 2,006 yards in 2009.
Hed like to see the Titans hire the man who coached him that season: Earnest Byner.
I wish wed bring back Earnest, Johnson said. We had a lot of success with Earnest. I think that would be great.
Byner is currently running backs coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was an assistant with...

The off-season has barely started for some NFL players and we’re already hearing about legal troubles. The latest involves Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt. It should come as no shocker considering how many times his name has been in the police blotter over the past few years.
This time, Britt is adhering to the “no snitching” code of the streets. Britt dropped...
The Titans are interested in bringing back a familiar face to coach the teams running backs Sherman Smith.
Prying Smith, a former Titans assistant who helped develop running back Eddie George, away from the Seattle Seahawks might not be easy, however.
Smith has a top-notch running back in Marshawn Lynch, and plenty of familiarly in Seattle since its where he enjoyed...
