Tennessee Titans quarterback Chris Simms was arrested in July after police accused of him for driving while under the influence of marijuana. On Friday, the third-year quarterback rejected a plea deal and will now have to return to court March 1.
According to the Associated Press, Simms turned down the judge’s punishment that would have been a $500 fine, five days of community service, and a 90-day suspension of his license. Now, Simms must go back to court and could face up to a year in prison if convicted of the misdemeanor.
The New York Post published an article back in July indicating that Simms was in the vehicle with his pregnant wife and four-year old daughter when he was pulled over. In the article, a source claims that Simms “reeked of marijuana” and had red eyes along with a flushed face. The article also claims that Simms had a slurred speech when talking to the officer that pulled him over.
While the police claim he admit to smoking marijuana, Simms denies that happened–which means this case should have an interesting outcome. Either way, this incident won’t have as much of an impact on the Titans considering Simms never stepped on the field once in 2010.
