Following his third arrest in a week, it became clear that Titus Young is in need of serious help.

His father, Richard, intimated as much to the Detroit News.

"We knew that something had happened to him or he was locked up again," Richard Young said on Monday. "His mind is not capable enough to go out and deal with society because of this situation."

Richard Young said Titus suffers from a disorder caused by his brain being compressed into the front of his skull, and he hasn't been taking his required medication. Doctors told Richard that treatment for Titus' issue could last up to six months.

"He's not dealing with it the way he should be," Richard Young said. "If the judge gives him a court order, then maybe he'll get the help he needs."

In an effort to bring some stability to his son, Richard took the former Lions receiver out for coffee on Friday, hours before his arrest for burglary and assaulting a police officer. However, Titus drove off without so much as a goodbye to his parents.

"When he's around us, his mind comes and goes," Richard Young said. "He can't really defend himself, and I don't want ya'll thinking he's a bad person."

It's understandable -- and even admirable -- that Young's father would go to bat for him after so many slip-ups in such a short period of time. Football is clearly not a priority or option at this point in Titus' life, but hopefully his family can get him on the much-needed road to recovery.
