The T.O. indoor show will hit the road for the first time Sunday. Terrell Owens, the often controversial former NFL receiver now playing arena football for the Allen Wranglers, has agreed to play his first road game Sunday against the New Mexico Stars in Rio Rancho, N.M. Owens' contract with the Allen Wranglers is only for home games. The Wranglers have played one road game since Owens made his indoor debut on Feb. 25 at the Allen Event Center, catching three touchdown passes. "Because we signed that deal late with him, his schedule wasn't 100 percent available, but he's doing his best," Wranglers co-owner Jon Frankel said. Frankel denied a report that teams must give Owens a percentage of the gate for him to play in their arenas. He said the main issue is Owens' availability. "That's not true," Frankel said. "There (are) different things going on based on different scenarios. The No. 1 thing is he wants to play. There are different scenarios that have to be worked out, and it looks like they worked this one out." The Stars offered Owens a contract last October when Owens was looking to sign with an NFL team after recovering from a new injury. The Stars, an expansion franchise in the Indoor Football League, e-mailed a contract to Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Owens apparently didn't respond to the contract offer, but getting Owens to play a game in New Mexico is the next best thing. "We're expecting a sellout," Stars owner-general manager Dart Clark told the Albuquerque Journal. "We have already sold more tickets for this game than we had at last Sunday's game, and we still have a week to go." The Stars drew 3,721 to their opener Feb. 26, the same night Owens and the Wranglers drew 5,711 in Allen. Clark told the Journal the Stars had to "get specifics worked out" regarding hotel and travel before securing Owens' presence, and Owens has agreed to sign autographs after the game. "We can get 6,500 if we open everything at the arena," Clark said. "This maybe will be the only time T.O. comes to New Mexico and plays." Frankel said other IFL teams have shown interest in Owens playing when the Wranglers visit. "I can't share which ones," Frankel said. "I would be surprised if he didn't play in one or more road games over and above this game." Last week, dallasnews.com reported that Owens is facing foreclosure on both a townhome and a condo he owns in Dallas. Also last week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Melanie Paige Smith, the mother of one of Owens' children, filed a contempt of court petition stating that Owens is 20,000 behind in child support payments.
