Tony Gonzalez returned to football this season in hopes of winning a Super Bowl title. That goal now seems fairly unlikely. After coming within a few yards of a Super Bowl berth last season, the Atlanta Falcons started this year just 1-4 and have already lost a few key players, including wide receiver Julio Jones, for the season. Nevermind their Super Bowl hopes, now the Falcons are a long shot to even make the playoffs. Even still, Gonzalez has no intention of going anywhere, saying he would not request a trade this season, according to Paul Newberry of the Associated Press. “I want to be with these guys,” Gonzalez said on Thursday. Gonzalez, 37, has already said multiple times that this will be his final NFL season, even though he continues to perform like one of the best tight ends in football. The Falcons’ brutal start paired with Gonzo’s final farewell have led to rampant rumors that Atlanta could, and should, trade the future Hall of Fame tight end to a contender — namely his former Kansas City Chiefs — before the season is through. It appears that the 13-time Pro Bowler won’t be going anywhere, at least not at his own request. So, the Falcons might want to lock down and try to get him back into the postseason for one last hurrah. Have a question for Luke Hughes? Send it to him via Twitter at @LukeFHughes or send it here.
