The New York Jets were the first franchise to get into the alternate market when they donned their 25th anniversary of Super Bowl III “fauxbacks” in 1993. Not to be outdone, the rest of the NFL joined them in 1994, dusting off throwback looks from various eras as the league celebrated its 75th season.The trend coincided with the throwback mania in pop culture as hipsters and hip-hoppers stepped out in the latest $350 Mitchell & Ness re-creation. Owners quickly realized fans were eager to double or triple down on alternate and/or nostalgic team merchandise.Some of the following uniforms started out as alternates before becoming the team’s primary look due to popular demand.
