Jacksonville Jaguars WR/RB Denard Robinson The Jacksonville Jaguars have never been a team known for having the fastest offenses. Looking at receivers past, you see bigger guys such as an Earnest Wilford, Reggie Williams, and even a Matt Jones. One similarity when comes to the receiving corps that carried these guys are losing seasons. Even when the Jags put forth players such as Mike Sims-Walker and Mike Thomas, things never panned out well. At a 2-14 record in 2012, the Jags saw flashes of receivers with great promise in Cecil Shorts III, and Justin Blackmon. One thing that still remains to be seen is true speed. When you look back in Jaguar history, it was the speed of Keenan Mccardell and Jimmy Smith that carried the Jags. Looking ahead to 2013, the Jags have two rookies that could show those same qualities. In the 4th round of this year’s NFL draft the Jaguars selected speedy wide receiver Ace Sanders out of South Carolina. Although the rookie didn’t boast the greatest numbers in college he was a very effective wide receiver and returner for Coach Steve Spurrier. In 3 years at South Carolina Sanders returned 3 punts for touchdown with 2 coming his senior year. Also in that senior year, Sanders produced his greatest receiving numbers hauling in 45 passes for 531 yards and 9 touchdowns. If there is one word to describe Sanders it’s explosive, and that is something the Jaguars offense desperately needs. The Jags will be able to use the speedster in slot, out of the backfield, and even certain packages with plays designed just for him. Regardless of how he is used, Sanders will only be of help to a struggling receiving corps. Moving ahead one round in the NFL draft, the Jags selected offensive specialist Denard Robinson out of Michigan. Robinson is a guy much like Sanders who can bring big time play-making ability and explosiveness to the Jags offense. As a wolverine, Robinson played under center for the majority of three seasons, and racked up just over 6,000 passing yards. Combine that with over 4400 rushing yards and the Jags have a huge weapon to work with. Over the course of the season I see the Jags utilizing Robinson greatly through the backfield, the slot, and even his own wildcat packages. The versatility Robinson brings is something the Jags haven’t seen in a while and they intend to use it. The 2013 season promises big things for a Jags offense that struggled mightily a year ago. With the emergence of Shorts III, Blackmon who’s coming into his second year, and the two rookie speedsters, the Jags look to score and score often this year.
