The Pittsburgh Steelers will be celebrating their 80th season, so the team unveiled their throwback 1934 uniforms — and they look absolutely hideous.
Fortunately, the black-and-gold striped jerseys will be worn for just two games in 2012.
“We wanted to go back … and recall some of the early days of the franchise,” Steelers’ President Art Rooney II said. “Back in the early 1990′s we wore the 1933 jersey for our throwback game, so we thought the 1934 jersey would be something different and would help us recall the early days of pro football.”
The uniform’s pants are mustard yellow. The Steelers will stick with their normal black helmets as part of the throwback uniform.
“It’ll be interesting to see how our fans react to it. It’s very different, kind of eye-popping, so it’ll be fun to see how everyone reacts to it. It’ll be fun to see [the players] reaction to it too.”
“They went waaaay back for this one,” Steelers running back Isaac Redman said. “I don’t know how everybody else is going to take it, but I really like the uniform. I like the stripes. But we’ll see. We’ll see the reactions.”
Honoring history is one thing.
Choosing a uniform design that won’t fly in 2012 is something else.

The uniforms Steelers wore for throwbacks last year were awful. These should be worn by prisoners. Need more numbers though.
