49ers tight end Vernon Davis scored his first touchdown of the season in Sunday’s 30-22 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Davis decided to celebrate the TD with a dunk, but the goal post was having none of it: Better luck next attempt, Vernon. Or maybe he should opt for a layup instead of the [...]

Thanks to our friends at CosbySweaters.com we have this wonderful footage of 49ers tight end Vernon Davis attempting to dunk a football after scoring a touchdown.
One of the best trends of the last decade or so in the NFL is the increasing number of college basketball players that have been converted to tight ends. It started with Tony Gonzalez, then Antonio Gates, now Jimmy Graham from the Saints. Right in the middle of the athletic basketball playing tight end explosion, there was San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.
San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers bounced a ball off the crossbar and through the uprights from 63 yards just before halftime, tying an NFL record in Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
Akers hit a low line drive that caromed off the crossbar and kept going forward instead of bouncing back onto the field. A wide-eyed Akers raised his arms in triumph...
Jim Harbaugh would love it if his postgame handshake with Detroit coach Jim Schwartz last season were ancient history 11 months later.

Following the Week 6 game, Harbaugh aggressively shook Schwartz’s hand as he ran off the field...
Both Brandon Jacobs and rookie LaMichael James are inactive for San Francisco.
Kendall Hunter will pick up more touches behind Frank Gore as a result.
Well it was going to be a tough game and the Packers found themselves on the losing side as they drop the season opener to the San Francisco 49ers 30-22.

The game looked almost identical to every game played last season, at least from...
Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers both went in the first round of the 2005 draft. Alex Smith went first, even though Rodgers is the better quarterback! WEIRD, Peter King says. Anyway, this is the NFC Championship Game we would have gotten last year if only the Giants hadn’t beaten Green Bay by many, many points via domination. Nevertheless, it’s a pivotal NFC showdown, provided the...
