When vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman was asked Sunday about the team's 89-man roster -- one short of the 90-player limit -- Spielman said "oh, we're filling it."
The team didn't waste much time, and they made one of their most significant, if not flashy, moves of this free agency period.
The Vikings announced Monday the signing of offensive tackle Charlie Johnson, who started 54 games for the Colts since 2006. Johnson, 27, was the Colts' left tackle last season and allowed six sacks, according to Pro Football Focus.
Early indications are that the 6-foot-4, 305-pound Johnson can provide depth at tackle or guard. It's uncertain whether the Vikings expect Johnson to compete for the starting left tackle spot, where Bryant McKinnie resides. The Chicago Sun-Times reported the Vikings were making a run at Saints left tackle Jermon Bushrod, possibly a ploy to motivate, or even release, McKinnie.
