When approaching the upcoming NFL season, the Washington Redskins are faced with a long list of injured players that are working to make a comeback by Week 1. While the majority of the team participated in regular practice on the field, a group of injured, including six starters, worked on rehabilitation and conditioning on the sidelines during organized team activities in May and early June.
When asked about the injuries, head coach Mike Shanahan stated, "You don’t want to put them in there too quickly because you don’t want to set them back. You just want to make sure we go to Richmond (site of Redskins training camp) and have a chance to have all these guys ready to compete for these positions.”
Among the injured players is QB Robert Griffin III, one of the youngest and most successful rookies in the NFL. Affectionately known as RG3 by his fans, he experienced an injury on his right knee that has disabled him during the offseason.
According to backup QB Kirk Cousins, RG3 is on the mend. "Robert looked awesome," Cousins said. "I'm not just saying that. Obviously, he is a bit of a freak in terms of his athleticism, but he's healed very quickly. He couldn't practice with us, he was on a spate field doing drills all spring ... he looked really good, and I think he'll be ready to go in Week 1."
Although a large knee brace has joined the field with him, RG3 is slowly, but surely returning to practice in hopes of being ready for the 2013 season.
In addition to Griffin III, WR Pierre Garcon is recovering from a foot injury and rehabilitation from a shoulder surgery, but has stated that he will be ready for Game 1. TE Fred Davis, LB London Fletcher, CB Josh Wilson, and S Brandon Meriweather are starters who are also facing injury recovery.
While Davis and Wilson are expected to make full recoveries in more than enough time, Fletcher and Meriweather's futures are a little more unpredictable. While both players are expected to make full recoveries in time for the upcoming season, their injuries need more time to heal and the exact time period is difficult to project.
Coming from a winning season and earning first place in the NFC East, the Redskins hope to have a healthy and fully recovered starting lineup by the first regular season game against the Tennessee Titans on September 9th in order to have another successful year.

Rich Tandler of CSN Washington believes the Redskins may elect to move forward with just Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins as the only quarterbacks on their 2013 roster.
As of now, Washington is still carrying Rex Grossman as their third-string quarterback, but as Tandler points out, Mike Shanahan discussed the advantages of carrying four tight ends on their roster.
