Rich Tandler of CSNWashington.com reports that Redskins running back Clinton Portis, who is a free agent, would like to continue playing in the NFC East against one of the Redskins’ rivals.
He mentioned the New York Giants as his first destination.
But he also stated that he thinks it would be fun to play with the Philadelphia Eagles, notably quarterback Michael Vick.
Portis will be 30 in September of 2011. It is unlikely that he would sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. If he did, it would obviously be in a backup role, likely just for a year. It would also probably mean that Jerome Harrison isn’t returning.
Portis has played in just 13 games over the past two seasons due to injuries. He could still be somewhat effective in a limited role.
I don’t think it would be a bad move if the Eagles signed him, under two conditions.
First, they would need to know that Jerome Harrison isn’t returning next year.
