Bill Murray should purchase the Washington Redskins. One of Murray's classic films, "Groundhog Day", has some painfully real similarities to the Washington Redskins. His character Phil found himself stuck in an endless time loop, repeating the same things over and over, trying to do something, ANYTHING differently each time in an effort to break free of the loop and move on to February 3.Unfortunately for Redskins owner Dan Snyder, he is Phil.Since Snyder purchased the team in 1999, the Redskins have been to the playoffs three times. In 1999, they won the NFC East. In 2005, the Skins came close to another division title, but those pesky New York Giants had to go and win their season finale.Their third playoff season, 2007, was darkened greatly by the tragic murder of their bright, budding superstar, Sean Taylor. It took a five game win streak at the end of the season to finish 9-7 and sneak in as the NFC's sixth playoff seed.In the ten non-playoff seasons, Washington played just well enough to give fans hope. Many of those years had the Redskins start off hot, going 3-0, 3-1 in September, reaching the mid-point of 2008 with a 6-2 record. Incredibly, they always managed to NOT make the postseason. No matter the head coach (they've been through seven), no matter the quarterback (14 of them), Washington finds ways, creative ways, incredible jaw-dropping ways, to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. After nine games in 2012, Washington is still the same Groundhogs as always ("Hogs" pun partially intended). Sure, they could win out and still finish 10-6. Heck they could go 5-2, finish 8-8 and maybe even win the division! New York did it with a 9-7 record last year.I have bad news for the "glass is half full crowd". Your glass is half filled with kerosene, and Mike Shanahan just picked up a book of matches.
