The Indianapolis Colts had to stop practice early on Saturday as ominous skies forced the team indoors to complete their practice. Unfortunately, the lightning in the clouds was more threatening than the Colts' offensive unit during goal line drills.

Both Andrew Luck and Drew Stanton threw interceptions during the 11 on 11 drills in pads. Given head coach Chuck Pagano's focus on not turning the ball over in the red zone, this was clearly the most disappointing day for the offense thus far in camp.

In the running game, Darren Evans and Delone Carter both looked effective. Carter scored on three consecutive snaps at one point. Those two will most likely be battling for the job as short yardage back throughout camp.

Rookie fifth rounder Vick Ballard wasn't as impressive. Ballard was stopped three times from the one yard line by the second team defensive unit.

Given the efficiency of the young Colts' offense during the first week of practices, today's performance was disappointing, but probably shouldn't be all that surprising. Perhaps no area on the field is as dependent on timing and familiarity as the goal line. With the field compressed into an 11 yard box, quarterbacks and receivers as well as linemen must act with precision with the defense playing more aggressively.

Practice resumes at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, weather permitting. The Colts will host the St. Louis Rams at Lucas Oil Stadium one week from Sunday in their first preseason game.
