With the NFL Week 4 games winding down, two key wide receivers have sustained injuries. The New York Jets, losing 27-0 to the San Francisco 49ers have carted WR Santonio Holmes off the field. Holmes went down on the field without contact, an injury which does not look good for Holmes injury. He was removed from the field and appeared unable to put any weight on his leg. The Detroit Lions also saw WR Calvin Johnson leave the field after a helmet to helmet hit after getting tagged by Minnesota Vikings LB Chad Greenway. Johnson did eventually return to the game for the Lions but Detroit is struggling against the Minnesota Vikings. If the Jets have had another key player sustain an ACL injury in the second consecutive week, it’s just got to be a matter of time before speculation ties the Jets to a return of Plaxico Burress, especially given the futility of their offense and lack of a threatening receiving corps.

INJURY SPIN: Foot Injury for Santonio Holmes

The always classy Santonio Holmes looked like he got shot by a large caliber gun when he went down on a non-contact injury and lamely gave the ball up to the Niners defense who returned if for a TD. It turns out that this consummate teammate and all around good guy (see Jets fans, we are not too hard on Holmes )sustained a foot injury, possibly a ligament tear, not a knee injury...

Santonio Holmes expected to be out a few weeks

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, it sounds like Jets head coach Rex Ryan doesn’t expect wide receiver Santonio Holmes to be a back for a few weeks after injuring his foot on Sunday. So until Holmes comes back, it looks like Jeremy Kerley and Chaz Schilens will be the Jets’ starting receivers.  Good luck Rex.
