It was a high-scoring affair in the nation's capital, but the New England Patriots managed to pull out a close one over the Washington Redskins in a 34-27 victory.

Rob Gronkowski broke the NFL record for touchdown receptions by a tight with his 14th of the season in  the first quarter, passing Antonio Gates (2004) and Vernon Davis (2009) who each had 13. Just because he could, Gronk added another touchdown reception in the third quarter to bring his season total up to 15. MVP consideration anyone?

The fourth quarter was a completely scoreless one, but it was still arguably the most exciting one. After throwing an interception in the end zone that would have closed the game out for good if it weren't intercepted, Tom Brady got in a big argument on the sidelines with offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien. The two had to be separated. That's not something you see often on the Patriots sidelines.

With the Redskins down 34-27 at that point, Rex Grossman then led the Redskins down into the end zone. It looked like Grossman hooked up with a Redskins WR in the endzone initially, but it was immediately called back for offensive interference. On the very next play, Jerod Mayo picked off a Grossman pass, and the game ended with a Brady kneel down.

Tom Brady and the New England offense looked suberb like usual, but the defense looked brutal. Devin McCourty and the Patriots secondary can't be giving up 27 points to the likes of Rex Grossman if they want to advance far into the playoffs.

Now 10-3 and atop the AFC conference, the Pats are sitting pretty down the stretch. Next Sunday, the Pats will travel to Denver to play Tim Tebow and the Broncos at 4:15 ET PM on CBS.
