Even though I picked the Saints to win this one I was right about something. I said, unlike many so-called experts, that the Redskins could win this game and if they won the turnover battle they'd win the game. Well guess who won the turnover battle. Here's a hint, it wasn't the Saints.

With 3:18 to go in the game the Skins held a 16 point lead over the defending NFC South champs and anyone who follows me on Twitter can attest to, I was still very much nervous. After all this was a team we saw blow their fair share of leads over the past four seasons (one of those to the Saints).

However the boys in burgundy held on and won in decisive fashion.

Is this big win in a place where the Saints didn't lose a single game last season a sign of things to come or just a young team overachieving?

I honestly think it's a sign of things to come. With that said I'm not changing my prediction of 9-7 from last week but I think this team is going to play well for the remainder of the season and will probably be in every single game.

This is a young offense that showed the NFL they can put up points in bunches in a hostile environment and a savvy defense that can take the leagues premiere quarterback and make him look pedestrian. Folks, that's not a fluke right there. That was a team that's been building for the past two seasons having a coming out party.

Again I'm tempering expectations here, after all this was only one game but I think we learned a lot from this one game. The first is that when given time to rest on the sideline this defense can make big plays. Two, Robert Griffin III so far looks like he's not going to try too much, he'll take what's there but he didn't really try to force anything. And lastly Kyle Shanahan isn't going to ask too much from his rookie quarterback. The Skins ran the ball more then they threw it on Sunday and RG3's first five passes were screens. The Shanahans have gotten a lot of flack the past two seasons (some deserving, some not so) but it would appear that they know what they're doing with Griffin. After all, he had a very vanilla preseason and I'll admit I was wondering if the team made the right move in moving up to get him. However, he looked really good out there and definitely made me a believer.

In the end though, this is just one game it could very well be an aberration, after all the Redskins handily beat the inevitable Super Bowl Champions last season in week one and that didn't spell play-offs for the team, but we'll have to wait and see how this thing plays out. I'll tell you one thing though, I haven't been this excited since 1999.
