The Patriots went into the 2009 preseason with a huge void in the pass-rush department. So when they traded for Derrick Burgess, the move was fill with huge optimism. Teammates spoke highly of him, as did coach Bill Belichick. The thought was that the trade of two draft picks would be worth it. But then Burgess struggled early, struggled some more, and was sent home as part of LateGate. Seemed to be quite the disaster. Except, things got better. Burgess stood up and took responsibility for being late, while also registering three of his five sacks in the last three games. When the season ended, he said he wanted to return… and today, he did.
