Rich Cimini has been going through positional analyses of the Jets this week, and his latest was on the wide receivers.  Here’s a few nuggets from his article on the WRs, as well as some quick reactions of mine. One opposing scout said Holmes lack his usual explosiveness. In fact, he had only eight receptions of 20+ yards and he averaged only 3.8 YAC. The Jets paid him like a franchise receiver ($9 million per year), but he was anything but — although he was victimized by a lack of creativity in the passing game. How many slants can one team run? That slant absolutely killed teams in 2010.  Santonio ran that slant because it is the route that best fits his Sanchez’s strengths at their respective position.  Santonio would burn his coverage, and once he caught the ball, it was off to the races.  While Safety help might not be effective with quick slant routes, having the safety help over the top does minimize the YAC, and frees the corner to play the receiver much more physically at ...
