With six weeks of NFL football now in our rearview mirror, it’s about the time of year we begin considering two looming events, the playoffs and head coaches getting their pink slips. Today, we’ll be focusing on the latter. Although there are a number of terrible teams around the league, some coaches have a “get out of jail free” card going for them. Most first-year coaches, for example, don’t have to worry about job security. Gus Bradley, who is leading one of the worst teams in recent memory, doesn’t have to worry about the Jaguars firing him, even if the Jaguars finish with one win on the year. Everyone understands the Jaguars are awful, and no one is blaming the head coach. Other coaches, however, face a more difficult struggle. Tom Coughlin is one of the longest tenured head coaches in the league, and he’s won two Super Bowls, yet his job security is tenuous at best. Most feel that the Giants, as one of the models of stability in the NFL, will let Coughlin determine his own...

  • No way Tom gets canned...he has earned the right to walk away if he wants to at seasons end. But don't bet on him doing that. He won't want to go out on such a down note. Besides, the way the NFC East is this year the Giants may still win the division. The O Line seemed to jell against Chicago and Jacobs can obviously still play. Add to that the acquisition of John Conner at FB and today's deal to bring in Peyton Hillis and you have the makings of a ground game. They will also get Andre Brown back soon and David Wilson may just return kicks where he is dangerous in space. With a ground game Eli will have more time to throw and could cut down on his INT's. Many of his picks were the fault of the
receiver as well. I'm not giving up on this season just yet Coughlin will find a way to get this team back in the hunt.
And besides, no team has ever lost the first 6 and made the Playoffs...it's a long shot but the Law of Averages would say that a team will eventually do it, why not this season. You couldn't write a crazier script and Hollywood would laugh but ya just never know in sports.

Tom Coughlin says Eli Manning won't be benched this season

Tom Coughlin knows Eli Manning is struggling but believes his two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback is getting too much blame for his winless team's current plight. And no, there will be no sudden benching of his quarterback this season, and the Giants head coach made that clear on Wednesday during his conference call with Minnesota Vikings reporters. "If I hear you...

Peyton Hillis Will Be Ready By Monday According to Tom Coughlin

The Giants signed Peyton Hillis to provide some depth at a very thin running back position on Wednesday. The team fully expects him to play on Monday. Is part of it the creation of necessity? No doubt. The Giants only have one healthy running back in Michael Cox, but Cox is a seventh round draft pick rookie who the team doesn't quite trust in pass protection yet. The team...
