Here’s what happens when you sign a brand new contract, go into the 2012 NFL season trying to win a rushing title after just falling short the year before and have a chance to be the best running back and maybe the best all-around back in the league. You get injured, you run for 750 yards and your team flops, winning a handful of games and owns the fourth overall pick in the NFL.Such is the life of LeSean McCoy.As a fantasy football league owner, I was not happy with the results. McCoy did me no favors. This year, McCoy has a chance to make amends for a sub-par performance (injuries cannot be helped) and make this fantasy owner a little happier.Yes, I know that is not the reason for this article. With Chip Kelly and the spread offense in place and the possibility of track meet football games, how can McCoy not think this will be the best year of his NFL career? How can this not be a chance for him to solidify himself as the best running back or player in the game? Doesn’t redemption mean anything?McCoy is the perfect fit for Kelly’s system and with weapons in an arsenal that includes Mike Vick, DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, this will be a very good offense. If the line holds up (are you listening, Eagles management? Draft a lineman in the first round).McCoy reminds me a lot of the backs before him, like Roger Craig or Marshall Faulk who were great at being elusive and could catch the ball out of the backfield. If Kelly’s only problem is not having enough balls to go around in this offense, then he is doing something right. But the focal point must be on McCoy. He must be the leader, carry the load and take the lunch pail to work every game. This division may be the best in the NFL. Someone will be sitting at home around Christmas. McCoy and the boys did enough of that last season.Another repeat performance means there are more issues to deal with than just the running game.If McCoy is healthy all season, there is no reason to believe he cannot be the back we thought of when the season started. In fact, the injury and lost game time may make him even better.
