Jason Avant was selected as the winner of the Ed Block Courage Award for the 2010 season. The award is selected by Eagles’ players and is given to one person per NFL team. Avant grew up in a gang environment in Chicago. He was drafted as the Eagles’ fourth round draft pick in 2006 and has been with the team for the last five seasons. He is a very valuable team player and is one of the top third down receivers in the NFL. He is also a great blocker, as shown by his massive block on Giants’ long snapper Zak DeOssie on DeSean Jackson’s game-winning punt return touchdown. Avant suffered a concussion on the play but will likely play against the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday. Michael Vick won the Ed Block Courage Award unanimously last season.
