With the NFL lockout closing in on 150 day benchmark, teams from around the league are beginning to feel the heat of the July sun more than they have in previous years. Rookies are still unsigned, players have not visited team facilities in months, and every “players only” practice comes with great risk of injury for franchise talents.
One of the biggest issues that surrounds the Cleveland Browns during the lockout is the communication blockage between the players and coaches. The Browns are one of the few teams in the league that will be under a new coaching regime in 2011 and simply have not had any time to learn playbooks or terminology.
All of these contributing factors may result in a very strange influx of player movement after the lockout is lifted. Teams like the Browns will need veterans to not only coach the younger talents, but possibly be starters due to a lack of time to teach incoming players.
