Tyrann Mathieu Twitter Page (@Mathieu_Era)
It has been a long and stressful couple of years for rookie (or former rookie) sensation Tyrann Mathieu, After two sensational years with LSU Tigers, accumulating 14 overall turnovers ( 8 forced fumbles, 4 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries), scoring 4 touchdowns ( 2 punt returns) and also being a Hiesman finalist in 2011, Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed August 10, 2012 in the opening weeks of camp for “Violating team rules” or as we all now his underlined drug addiction. As I watched the NFL draft I did so in horror seeing Tyrann Mathieu, the “Honey Badger” who had just 2 years before been among “number 1 pick talks” fall to back of the 3rd round going 69th overall to the Arizona Cardinals, now my assumption is teams weren’t willing to take a “risk” on him, we’ll the Cardinals have seemed to solve that problem, weekly drug screenings and no guaranteed money, and teams will regret the day they decided to play it safe with soon-to- be elite corner.
Mathieu’s rookie year at LSU was nothing short of breakout becoming an immediate impact playmaker on the defensive side of the ball, but also showing fundamentals signs of a true shut down corner, Tyrann Mathieu’s combine, I believe made a huge case for all his short comings debuting elite ball skills and an almost wide receiver like ability to hunt for the ball in the air and even “box-out” and position himself to get get the ball over taller and stronger wideouts despite only being 5’9 and 175lbs., I also believe he out preformed Dee Milliner who has been, in my opinion, outrageously and wrongly dubbed “The second coming of Derrelle Revis”.
And not only is he going to be the biggest steal since the great Tom Brady, but of all places to steal him the Arizona Cardinals who not only run an eerily similar defense to LSU, but also contain Mathieu’s best friend from LSU and All-Star defensive rookie last year, Patrick Peterson not to mention Junior stand out Kevin Minter and defensive end Curtis Taylor.
I think with all things taken into consideration, Tyrann Mathieu’s overall potential, plus his uncanny and underrated ability to understand offenses and adjustments at the line of scrimmage coupled with the great support system he has developing in Arizona, I think within the next 2-3 years you will see Tyrann Mathieu’s bloom into the elite shutdown corner I know he will become.
