Marshall Faulk wants to know how the underdog Patriots could have defeated the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI without cheating. Willie McGinest is happy to tell him. Amid Faulk’s murmurings that the Patriots used illegal taping to give them an advantage in their 20-17 win in 2001, McGinest jumped on Comcast Sports Net’s Felger and Mazz to share his view on Wednesday. His assessment — that the Patriots were flat-out better and smarter — will not likely sit well with Faulk. McGinest talked about how the Patriots had flexible defensive schemes that took advantage of the team’s “smart” personnel, who could quickly pick up and respond to what the Rams were doing. That’s what gave New England the edge, he said. McGinest also pointed to the game’s final score, after the Rams’ second-half comeback, as proof that the Pats didn’t have St. Louis all figured out. “If we had any extra information, then that game wouldn’t have been as dramatic as it was, coming down to a field goal,” McGinest said. “Trust me. It would have been a blowout.” McGinest wasn’t the only former Patriot defending the team this week. Matt Light also had a response for Faulk. “Listen, I’ve lost two championship games. Lost,” Light said, according to ESPN. “The same as he has. You can go back and look at anything you want … they lost that game. They had ample opportunity to win it. … You got to move on, baby.” Check out what McGinest had to say in the video below. document.getElementById('wpcom-iframe-form-28307866f27e142740c7466e0e98af5b').submit();
