BOOM goes the dynamite. The New York Jets pull the trigger on a guy that falls into their lap.
The selection of Geno Smith may spell the end for quarterback Mark Sanchez, possibly being cut before June 1st, as the Jets may just bite the bullet with the cap hit.
That's all speculation for now, but Smith does join the New York Jets after expecting to be drafted early in the first round. Value and talent led the Jets to take Smith. They had originally considered Smith with the 13th overall pick, but chose to draft DT Sheldon Richardson out of Mizzou.
Smith has a strong arm, is accurate, and was regarded as the majority top QB in the 2013 NFL Draft. To some, that is not saying much, but the New York Jets have to be satisfied with their choice.
