(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated.) By DAVE CAMPBELL AP Pro Football Writer The Minnesota Vikings are counting on some savvy, productive performances by their unseasoned cornerbacks.
Missing this year is stalwart veteran Antoine Winfield, who was let go and is now with Seattle. Not only will the group be without his leadership, but his steady play and sure tackling will be hard to replace.
The guys in charge of this critical position start with Chris Cook, Josh Robinson and rookie Xavier Rhodes. Combined, this trio has played in 38 regular season games and totaled just two interceptions, both by Robinson last year. A.J. Jefferson is the only other player in the mix for playing time with significant experience in the secondary.

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says accusations that he uses performance-enhancing drugs don't bother him, instead viewing them as compliments.
The biggest play of the Minnesota Vikings first preseason game was a 61-yard touchdown that brought undrafted rookie Zach Line immediate attention in his longshot attempt at a roster spot.
Line broke the initial tackle on a short outlet pass from quarterback Matt Cassel. Yet, one of the most important aspects of the play for Minnesota's coaches was how Line was led down the...
Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl fullback Jerome Felton will miss Friday's exhibition game against Buffalo, and perhaps the rest of the preseason, after having an emergency appendectomy.
The Vikings announced the surgery Wednesday night, not long after holding their last practice of training camp at Minnesota State, Mankato.
Felton was integral in Adrian Peterson's 2,000-yard...
While some athletes get angry or defensive when accused of using performance enhancing drugs, Adrian Peterson takes it as a compliment (Credit: AP Photo) Last season, Adrian Peterson showed the world that there is a possibility he is super human. Less than a year after tearing his ACL and MCL, Peterson not only started all sixteen games but nearly broke the single season rushing...
In many ways, the action really begins for the Minnesota Vikings this week in Buffalo for the season's second preseason game.
Last week at home, Minnesota held out several defensive starters and the starting offense played only two plays. This week, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said the starters should play into the second quarter as he looks to get a better idea of the players...
Jeff Locke graduated from UCLA with a degree in economics. How do economic principles apply to the Vikings and their startup punter this year? We asked, he answered.
With the welcome demolition of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome (Mall of America Field) looming as the Minnesota Vikings embark on the assumed final season at the old, rickety stadium before the team plays a few seasons at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus as it awaits the construction on its brand-spanking-new […]The post Fabric from old Metrodome roof to...
Adrian Peterson believes Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and other college football players should be able to get paid.
As the NCAA continues to investigate if Manziel got paid to sign autographs and memorabilia for dealers, Peterson spoke out about the hypocrisy of the situation and if he believes amateur athletes should be allowed to profit off their name.
I think so,...
If anyone thought that Donovan McNabb would stand idly by and not feel compelled to provide an unnecessary retort to comments Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III made during a GQ interview that were made public on Tuesday, well, they’d be sorely mistaken. In the GQ profile, RG3 reacted to how the former NFL (and […]The post Donovan McNabb says Robert Griffin III...
The Vikings have had an unseasonably cool training camp, which isn’t exactly what coach Leslie Frazier was looking for. Veterans like Kevin Williams, who said the best part of camp is the conclusion, don’t mind the temperatures.
On the recent edition of The UC Show, The Angry Corner got off to a quick start with Kenny railing against Robert Griffin III for his, in Kenny’s terms, State of the Union conferences with the media all the damn time. Kenny thinks RG3 should shut the hell up and stop putting his foot in […]The post Podcast: The Angry Corner Strikes Again, Donovan McNabb Edition appeared first...
This Donovan McNabb – Robert Griffin III drama is pretty elaborate and unnecessary for two guys who have never met one another. Several months ago, McNabb gave what appeared to be unsolicited advice to Griffin, who didn’t seem to care […]
The “pay-for-play” debate has raged on as intensely as ever this summer, but the question of whether or not universities should pay their student-athletes has taken a back seat.
Instead, much of the talk has centered around an athlete’s rights to his or her own name or likeness, with Johnny Manziel‘s autograph scandal standing at the forefront.
On Thursday, reigning NFL MVP...
