Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley stays in touch with former Lions wide receiver Charles Rogers. He said he might give him a call once a month or stop by his house in the off-season to see how he's doing.
Though Woodley went to Michigan and Rogers to Michigan State, both went to Saginaw High. Rogers was the second overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft. Woodley was a second-round pick in '07.
"Every year I have my football camp at Saginaw High, I made sure that I invite him out every year," Woodley said today in a conference call with Detroit reporters. "I kind of feel like he was one of the main athletes in Saginaw - the athlete in Saginaw - who really showed us young players that you can go to college being an athlete.
"I think he kind of made the way for all of us. I've still got a lot of respect for that guy."
Rogers is out of the league and continues to deal with legal problems.
