The Jets have a lot of young, talented players. They could all have good '13 season, but there is one player in particular that I think will have a breakout season and that's Stephen Hill. Hill hails from Georgia Tech, where their offensive scheme was an option offense. If you aren't familiar with an option offense, it is basically a team running the football as much as possible with 3 or 4 players and there is very little passing. So, if you aren't the quarterback or a running back then you don't get the ball. Hill had just 49 receptions for his college career---that number is very low! Most starting receivers get that or more in 1 season. The lack of touches has resulted in receiving skills that appeared to be lackluster, coming into the league. His physical attributes are what give me hope. Hill is a stunning athlete with great speed, size, and can jump out of the building. He needs to work on route running and catching the ball. He had some dropped passes last year where he didn't have anybody around him to disrupt the play, and one won't last long in the league doing that.   According to SportingCharts.com, Stephen Hill dropped 10.64% of his targets in 2012. The majority of players at higher rates than that are running backs and limited-use players. (More after the jump...)   If he can improve his receiving skills, then I see him becoming a top-10 receiver in the league and making the Pro Bowl. His improvement would help the teams passing offense which has been one of the worst in the league for the past few seasons (30th in 2012). I think getting Santonio Holmes healthy and re-signing Braylon Edwards would be major benefits to his development. Geno Smith as the starting quarterback can help him, too, but that's a different argument.   The west coast offense will get him the ball quickly and in-space, where he can make plays with his legs. If the Jets get the right quarterback in the game, Hill's upside leads me to a projection of 75 receptions for 1,200 yards and 10-14 touchdowns. He has amazing potential and I have confidence saying will be a star in the league very soon.
