ALLEN PARK, Mich. Defensive end Ezekiel Ziggy Ansah hasnt ruled out playing in the Detroit Lions regular-season opener Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings despite suffering a concussion nearly two weeks ago.
Im hopeful, but thats coachs decision, Ansah, the fifth pick overall in this year'sNFL Draft, said following Fridays practice. If Im allowed to play, I will. If not, Ill be on the sideline to support my team.
Coach Jim Schwartz won't comment on Ansah's status, but the Lions must reveal on their injury report to be released Friday at 4 p.m. whetherthe rookieis probable, questionable or doubtful for Sunday.
The concussion occurred on August 24 during a collision with offensive lineman Leroy Harris during a practice drill.
It was helmet to helmet, said Ansah, who confirmed that it was his first concussion.
Ansah indicated that he immediately informed the medical staff when he came off the field.
