Clinton Portis hints at retirement
Clinton Portis’s many media appearances this week didn’t lead to any definitive statement on his football future. He sure seems done, but you kind of expect that he’ll come out and say it at some point.
The closest he came, that I saw, came in his Web chat for ESPN.com, and it went like this:

Clinton Portis strips at charity auction
The Reliable Source already covered Clinton Portis’s farewell address to Washington last week. Read it here.
But I hadn’t previously seen this photo, so I guess I had to write a blog post of my own.
As for Portis’s remarks, via the Source:
“I love D.C.,” Portis said, “and I never really had a proper goodbye.” He said he knew it was a business decision for the Redskins...

Clinton Portis’ Early Retirement
As recently as 2008, Clinton Portis was pretty awesome. Just last October he was the Redskins’ starting running back. Now, one year later and seemingly as healthy as a 30-year-old with 2,230 career carries can be, he’s probably finished. The timeline:
Nov. 24, 2010 — Portis goes on injured reserve with a groin injury. We give our thanks later that day.
Feb. 28,...

Seahawks To Sign Clinton Portis?
Aging running back Clinton Portis was cut in February by the Washington Redskins, and it now seems Portis may end up in a Seattle Seahawks’ jersey this season.
Tweeted the NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora:
Clinton Portis will workout for the Seahawks this week. No signing expect but they’ll take a look at the veteran running back
So at least there’s the possibility...

One of my favorite players ever, Clinton Portis, in brighter days.
Clinton Portis is one of my favorite players of all time. I envisioned him leaving the Washington Redskins where he had a very productive career despite the dysfunction, and helping out some team at 2nd string...

The Clinton Portis Legacy
When the Washington Redskins released running back Clinton Portis on March 1, 2011, the curtain came down on one of the most mercurial, memorable careers in team history.
His was truly a shooting star—sometimes brilliant, often frustrating, never ordinary.
Yes, there have been colorful characters in burgundy and gold before. Troubled defensive end Dexter Manley springs to mind...

Can Clinton Portis still be an effective running back?
The Washington Redskins wasted little time in releasing veteran RB Clinton Portis after the conclusion of the 2010 NFL season, but can the free agent running back still be an effective player in the league going forward? The University of Miami product started his career with great promise after being drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2002. Portis accounted for 3,777 total yards and...

Former Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis Allegedly Interested in New York Giants
According to a report on the Real Redskins blog, former Pro Bowl running back for the Washington Redskins Clinton Portis wants to play for the New York Giants.
I got news for Portis, the Giants are not going to sign you. Portis has delusions of grandeur that he actually has a lot left in the tank and could help out any of the 31 other teams in the NFL not named the Redskins.
“It...

Talking Clinton Portis On 106.7 The Fan
Scott Jackson and Mike Prada had me on to talk Clinton Portis this morning on 106.7 the Fan in DC. With Portis recently released it's the end of an era for the Redskins, but it's up for debate as to what his legacy meant to the team.
As I wrote earlier, I think Portis made the Redskins relevant again, but he never displayed the skills of the elite back he was in Denver...

Could Former Redskins RB Clinton Portis End Up With Eagles?
Earlier this week, the Washington Redskins cut running back Clinton Portis–mainly because it would be difficult to pay the injury-plagued back the $8.3 million next season. Now, it appears one writer believes Portis would make a good fit for another team in the NFC East–the Philadelphia Eagles.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell believes Portis would make a good part-time back in Philadelphia...
