The St. Louis Rams ink safety Michael Lewis
The Rams have signed 30-year old safety Michael Lewis. Lewis played in 3 games earlier this year for the Niners and he had 10 tackles. Lewis has now played in 126 games in his NFL career and he has 678 tackles, 53 passes defensed, 10.5 sacks, 14 forced fumbles and he has 12 interceptions (one returned for a TD). I really like this signing for the Rams for a couple reasons. ...

Michael Lewis asks for release
According to Matt Barrow's, 49ers SS Michael Lewis has asked for his release.
This comes after Lewis restructured his contract a month ago, and was told this week he would not be benched or lose any playing time.
Clearly looks like Mike Singletary has lost this team.
If release occurs, it could open...

Part II: Five Intriguing Training Camp Competitions
Strong Safety: Michael Lewis vs. rookie Taylor Mays
The match-up between Lewis and Mays has many factors. Most importantly is Lewis’ health. He suffered three concussions last year, two in the preseason and the last one in week 5. Even though Lewis only missed one game his health will be a concern as the next concussion he suffers could be the end of his career.
Taylor Mays...

49ers Position Breakdown: Strong Safeties
Michael Lewis
Lewis has to be the most underrated player on the 49ers. He has been productive his entire career and last year was no different. Even with an injury, he still managed 82 tackles and an interception. Lewis is better suited to play in the box; this doesn’t bode well with the 49ers because they are weak at the corner position. Basically if you can’t cover with your...

Taylor Mays Puts the 49ers Defense Over the Top
With the 49th selection in the 2010 NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers complete the best pair of safeties in the league. Yes, I am making that prediction right now. Deshawn Goldson and Taylor Mays will become the best, maybe not this year but within the next three years.
As for next year, the 49ers instantly become better with Taylor Mays. Michael Lewis was the 49er’s incumbent...

Lewis won't play; third QB won't travel
Coach Mike Singletary met with the media, and here are the issues he addressed:
--Safety Michael Lewis will not suit up for the game. He sustained his third concussion since mid-August on Oct. 11, and the 49ers are taking a conservative approach with him. "It's a matter of continuing to talk to the doctors and talk to the trainers and making a decision of what's...
