On March 26, 1997, equipment littered the ice as the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche had one-on-one tea parties all over the Joe Louis Arena ice. It started with former Red Wings center Igor Larionov and former Avalanche winger Peter Forsberg getting physical in the corner. It continued with Darren McCarty pummeling a turtling Claude Lemieux in retaliation for Lemieux’s dirty hit that left former Wing Kris Draper with massive facial injuries. Goalies Mike Vernon and Patrick Roy joined in the fracas. And in the end, the brawl now rivals The Malice at The Palace as the biggest fight in the history of Detroit sports.  Here’s the whole shabang on video:
