Taking a quick break from all the Rick Nash craziness to bring you some other Rangers free agency news.

First, RFA Michael Del Zotto is confident a deal will get done with the Rangers (Blueshirts United)...

"(The contract) is going to happen, it's just something out of my control. I did my job this past year in trying to help the team win. Management and my agent are working things out. I love New York and understand the business side of things, too."

...i talked about the importance of Del Zotto yesterday (read here), and it looks like Rangers management has all the confidence in the world in him as he easily could have been part of the Nash trade.

...lock him up Glen. And then get Brian Leetch in his ear.

Next, with Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov shipped out to Columbus, the Rangers might have an opening at center and Steve Zipay at Newsday has a candidate...

Thinking C Jason Arnott, for 1 yr, at right price, would help C depth. Big, 17 Gs last year in St. Lou, once drafted by Slats

— Steve Zipay (@stevezipay) July 24, 2012

Arnott made $2.5 million and tallied 17g, 17a while playing in 72 games for the St. Louis Blues last season,

...i think a lot of this will have to do with Torts' plan with Stepan. Because right now the team doesn't need a center with Richards, Stepan, Boyle and Halpern. If the Rangers don't feel Stepan can get the job done then yes, maybe Arnott makes sense for a year on the cheap. Especially if they don't sign Doan. Can never have enough players that have been there, especially with so many youngsters on the roster.

Speaking of Doan, Sarah McLellan at the Arizona Republic reports that the Coyotes captain is still waiting to hear from prospective Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison by the end of the week to gain reassurance that his bid to purchase the team was still progressing....

"Without that insight, Doan was expected to examine the 16 teams that have expressed interest in him and study the six offers already extended to determine where he could envision himself next season if he wasn't with the Coyotes."

Doan's agent, Terry Bross, adds that he's waiting for Doan's list of teams he would consider joining.

...have to think the Nash acquisition has Doan looking at the Rangers a little bit harder now than he was last week. Still would hate to see Rangers give him anymore than a two-year deal.
