For the Geneva Red Wings, this summer baseball season looks promising as they are relying on the “strength and speed of their outfield” says owner Dave Herbst.
“With a good blend of all players from the various divisions, the Geneva Red Wings consists mostly of D1 Guys” says Herbst. Among those D1 guys, is big hitting outfielder Dan Saluga (Youngstown State).Complementing Dan will be NYCBL All-Star Leon Stimpson (Alverina) who will make an impact both at the plate and on the bases. Other players expected to make a contribution this summer are spray hitting outfielder Brian Sullivan and Jon Leroux, A returning NYCBL All-Star who can catch.
Undoubtedly, Speed and hitting appears to be the strengths for this year’ssquad, but what is up for speculation is whether the pitching staff will be a weakness or strength this season. “We will challenge our pitching staff, as it appears we are inexperienced. We plan on bringing an experienced pitching coach who will be a great leader for the staff” says Herbst. Up for the challenge will be left handed pitcher Phil Rosenblum (Villanova) who will be expected to log some innings for the Red Wings this summer as well as their side arm slinging bullpen threat, Zach Augustine (John Hopkins) who will be returning from last year’s team.
Aside from the pitching staff, the Red Wings return Ross Trachtenberg for his 4th season as the associate head coach. Trachtenberg is a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Lastly, the team will try to continue its valued tradition of strong generals at the catcher’s position by breaking in three new catchers this season. The future looks bright for the Geneva Red Wings in their 10th season as part of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Let’s just hope they are ready for the challenge that awaits them for the 2012 summer baseball season.

Ty Conklin will be in net for the Red Wings on Wednesday in New York.
According a tweet from FSD's John Keating, Conklin cleared waivers and will get the start against the Rangers.
Rookie Jordan Pearce will be Conklin's backup.
Jimmy Howard, who is nursing a sore groin, says he might be ready to play Saturday at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Wishful thinking was on display after Red Wings practice on Friday.
Many of the injured players were encouraged with their progress leading head coach Mike Babcock to believe that Captain Nick Lidstrom (ankle bone bruise) was ready to rejoin the lineup.
Nicks in, isnt he?" Babcock asked reporters after practice.
When the coach was informed that Lidstrom indicated that he...
from Ansar Khan of Mlive, “We’ll see what the coaching staff and trainers want to do, that’s why it’s hard to say right now whether I’m going to play or not,’’ Lidstrom said. “Just have to wait it out tomorrow and see how it feels.’‘
He said he feels better than he did 2-3 days ago, but still has some pain when he’s turning. He is concerned that he might reaggravate...
The Rangers report that Artem Anisimov said he felt great at practice today, but it is up to the coach whether he plays or not....Torts usually defers to the medical staff on injuries so if they clear him expect to see AA back in the line-up tonight....if AA returns, the question is who sits? Fedotenko is a little banged up so he is a possible candidate.Meanwhile, Pat Leonard at...
from of Puck Daddy, I spoke to Datsyuk last week about the upcoming playoffs, NHL rules changes, Alex Ovechkin and Alex Radulov, and other League topics. But as you’ll read, our conversations went in many other interesting places, including:
• His early hockey years, including wearing figure skates and a locker room fight.
• The people with whom he’d most like to have dinner...
Conklin cleared waivers today and is scheduled to start against the Rangers at MSG.
Jordan Pearce will be the backup even though Jimmy Howard felt he could fill that position tonight. Howard also mentioned he’d like to start on Saturday.
No change in Johan Franzen, did not skate but received off-ice treatment.
Lidstrom did more skating at the optional practice today, so far...
Way better effort tonight by the Wings. Not the result we wanted, but we're getting there. If the Wings keep playing like that, they'll be fine.Jump for the recap:
Conklin was very good out there. I'm not surprised. He's played very well in Grand Rapids and I knew he'd be ready if the call came. The PP was better tonight. Good movement and some decent shots...
The Detroit Red Wings' recent slump has coincided with a rash of injuries, though their captain is nearing a return.
Nicklas Lidstrom is a game-time decision when Detroit looks to avoid its longest losing streak in 21 years Saturday night against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.

On the heels of an emotional win over the Devils, the Rangers went out and defeated the Detroit Red Wings on the back of birthday boy Ryan Callahan. What started off as a slow-paced game, gained steam as the night wore on and ended in fireworks when Cally ripped a shot from the high slot to secure a 2-1 victory in overtime.
On to the notes from the game…

The visiting Detroit Red Wings lost 2-1 in overtime to the New York Rangers on Wednesday night, but played well enough to win.
The Red Wings are in the midst of a six-game losing streak, which is Detroit’s longest since a six-game losing streak at the beginning of October. Detroit is a feeble 3-6-2 in its last 11 games and is only in fourth in the...

Are you Mike Babcock?A) Yes. You just finished a pregame routine that includes staring at a frozen steak until it cooks itself. Now you will go coach a hockey team.B) No.-The Triple Deke

DET (44-25-5) host CAR (30-30-15) tonight, needing a win in the worst way. In their last six contests, the Wings are 0-4-2, and were outscored in those contests 10-22 (1.66 G/G). The Wings simply cannot score, and their crack-pipe excuse for a PP (1-gazillion) obviously isn’t helping (if I weren’t too lazy this morning I’m sure I could find how badly DET have been outscored...

The Wings play Columbus at home on Monday then travel to Columbus on Wednesday.
Are the Wings better off holding him back...
